Kim Shipp Kohli, M.F.A., C.M.A
TEACHER & CHOREOGRAPHER
Kim has a M.F.A. from the California Institute of the Arts and a B.F.A. from the University of Utah, both in dance. She is certified as a Laban Movement Analyst (CMA).
As former director of Contemporary Dance Company, Shipp Dance Theatre, she was named one of Dance Magazine’s “25 To Watch” for her pioneering of a new form of dance performance called “Retail Dance”. She produced the Retail Dance Festival in San Francisco for three years.
Kim loves to bring out the best in her students by teaching dance. She has been a guest faculty member at San Jose State University and Cabrillo College. She has worked in the Northern California public elementary schools for the past 24 years with Young Audiences, Starting Arts, as the Dance Artist-In-Residence at Horrall Elementary School (Performing and Visual Arts Magnet School), and North Shoreview Elementary School (Arts Magnet School).
Currently, Kim is a teaching artist for Leap…Arts in Education in San Francisco and teaches and directs at the Palo Alto Children’s Theater. She also teaches all K-2nd grade students in the Palo Alto School District’s “Dance in Schools” Program.
